As a key contributor to the rebranding initiative for Washburn University, I served on the University Branding Committee to shape a fresh, cohesive identity that resonates with students, faculty, alumni, and the Topeka community. Going beyond committee discussions, I played an instrumental role in collaborating with the university’s marketing firm to develop capstone concepts, refine color palettes, and choose fonts that represent Washburn’s essence and vision for the future.
My Role and Contributions
In addition to strategic planning and outside my role at the law school, I created several new materials designed to embed the brand’s new look and feel across campus and beyond. This effort included the creation of light pole banners set to line the main campus, the tech campus, and major roads throughout Topeka, giving the university’s presence a visual boost.
Other materials I developed to support the brand rollout included:
Professional Essentials: Customized name tags, electronic letterhead, and PowerPoint templates that carry the new brand design, ensuring consistent and polished presentations.
Email Signatures: A new, animated email signature featuring Washburn’s iconic mascot with a waving gif. This addition quickly became popular—so much so that I implemented the signature in the university president’s email as well.
Implementation and Training
To further facilitate a smooth adoption, I developed a comprehensive presentation with brand guidelines tailored for the School of Law, providing examples and guidelines to simplify implementation. By creating accessible resources, I helped faculty and staff understand and utilize the new brand identity effectively, extending our visual identity across ever corner of campus.
Impact
The updated branding has not only enhanced Washburn University’s visual presence but also strengthened its identity and pride within the university community. This project reflects my passions for infusing strategy into design and my commitment to executing ideas that foster a unified, memorable experience.
